Ok, so this isn't exactly educationally related but I was amazed that this type of technology could actually be in our homes in the future, possibly now I suppose for those that can afford it. This video is not new (especially when considering the rate at which technology advances). It strengthens the argument that the system of education and teachers need to become technologically savvy if for nothing else than keeping up with the "digital natives."
That's a lot of glass cleaner! (It had to be said...sorry :) ) It is cool though, although sometimes I think we all want to be a little less available...
Kaleigh and I were joking about something similar when we watched it. She was laughing, saying 'imagine going to friend's house and accidentally putting your phone on their coffee table and then all sorts of information just pops up! You would be left there saying, "oh, excuse me..."' That could potentially be embarrassing :)
Ann, I have seen this before. Companies like Corning are making amazing things and technology is constantly advancing & changing. So the question has to be asked...........
How will schools be able to keep up with the latest technology available in society, or will our schools always, due to budget reasons, be one step behind? Will schools continually have to update to new standards, as their current technology becomes obsolete?
I don't see how schools could possibly keep up! Since the Common Core was supposedly written by someone/s in the corporate world, I think they should at least provide the technology being required. At the moment, East Hartford is not equipped to administer Smarter Balance with basic technology let alone high-tech toys. It especially unfair to low income districts; to students because I don't see how we can close the achievement gap with such inequities and to the teachers whose evaluations are based on standards that we don't have the tools to implement in addition to all the literacy gaps... It is a bigger problem than I and I have no idea how to fix it :0(
I have mixed feelings about this video. I realize this is most likely the way we will be living in the near future. I also fear we will become so dependent on technology that we will forget basic things. For example, will we be able to remember a telephone number? Will we be able to find our way to a location without a GPS system? Will technology overtake people or should people have control over it?
